Somebody's Knockin' At My Door: Song Game

This is the song "Somebody's Knockin' At My Door," a folk song that we play as a guessing game as to who is playing the clave in music class. I hope you enjoy singing along and playing this game with someone in your family!

"Arirang" Korean Folk Song: Fan Dance

This is a fan dance based on choreography by Hal Leonard to the Korean folk song "Arirang," sung by Frances Yip. If you would like to listen to the original audio, please copy and paste this url: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YeOGtLy08c In music class, we learned about South Korea and read "The Ocean Calls: A Haenyeo Mermaid Story," by Tina Cho. This story describes the amazing free divers who dive in Jeju, an island off the coast of South Korea, and follows the story of a grandmother who is a haenyeo diver teaching her granddaughter how to free dive. Feel free to make your own paper fans at home to dance this piece. Enjoy!

Romeo and Juliet: Dance of the Knights by Sergei Prokofiev

This is a "Move It" movement to music choreographed by Peggy Lyman of Sergei Prokofiev's piece "Romeo and Juliet: Dance of the Knights." In music class we learned about Shakespeare's story of Romeo and Juliet, and then danced the parts of the Montagues and the Capulets at the masquerade ball that the Capulets host, where Romeo meets Juliet. If you would like to hear just the music of this piece, copy and paste this url: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_hOR50u7ek I hope you enjoy dancing along!

Old Woman All Skin and Bones

Please watch the video of Ms. Koplinka-Loehr singing the song "Old Woman All Skin and Bones," and sing along with her when she sings the "Ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh" part of the song. Once you have practiced the song, you can teach the song to someone else in your family or household if you would like! Finally, you can make up your own verse to the song--where else could the Old Woman go? What else could she hear? What else could she see? What else could she feel? Have fun singing and practicing our spooky October song, "Old Woman All Skin and Bones!" Old Woman All Skin and Bones: There was an old woman all skin and bones (Oo-oo-oo) She lived on a hillside all alone (Oo-oo-oo) One night she thought she’d take a walk (Oo-oo-oo) She went to the graveyard around the block (Oo-oo-oo) She looked down upon the ground (Oo-oo-oo) She saw some bones a-lyin’ around (Oo-oo-oo) She thought she’d go home to get a broom (Oo-oo-oo) She pointed her feet towards her front room (Oo-oo-oo) She crept onto her own front porch (Oo-oo-oo) She saw the flickering of a torch (Oo-oo-oo) She stepped across her living room floor (Oo-oo-oo) She heard a sound she'd never heard before (Oo-oo-oo) She felt something touch her hair (Oo-oo-oo) She turned, but saw nothing there (Oo-oo-oo) She put her hand on the closet door (Oo-oo-oo) Again, that sound she’d never heard before (Oo-oo-oo) She opened the door and then she saw (Oo-oo-oo) A shadow of something...BOO!

Firebird Infernal Dance by Stravinsky

We have been learning about the Firebird ballet, based on a Russian folk tale, with music composed by Igor Stravinsky. Listen closely to for the theme of the evil lord Katschei, with this long fingernails, as well as the theme of the firebird dancing and flying in the sky. Also listen for the theme of the demons, and Prince Ivan, who refuses to look in the eyes of Katschei, as he does not want Katschei to turn him into stone. To learn more about the story of the Firebird, feel free to watch a 3 minute synopsis here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcwJyZ0tgEI To watch the Infernal Dance of the Firebird Ballet, copy and paste this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOWJuZqQMmk Enjoy!

Hickety Pickety Bumblebee

Sing along with Ms. Koplinka-Loehr and Ms. G in one of our favorite songs, "Hickety Pickety Bumblebee!" Be sure to sing your own name in the song, and you can sing the song with everyone in your family and sing their names, too!
