I am excited to welcome returning and new Linwood E. Howe families to the 2009-10 school year! I hope your summer was filled opportunities to relax and to reenergize for the year ahead.

The Lin Howe team has been working hard to prepare for another productive year of quality education and enriching experiences. We will continue to provide the program that made our school the proud recipient of the 2009 Title I Academic Achievement Award from the California Department of Education. Our PTA is committed to continue supporting quality school assemblies and after school enrichment classes. Linwood E Howe Boosters are beginning the year with the installation of a Learning Garden that will enhance science instruction and experiences for students. Over the summer, I joined five teachers at the Music Center for a week-long training in arts integration to incorporate poetry, theater, and puppetry into our current standards-based core curriculum. Additionally, we will continue to offer and expand on opportunities such as Rolling Readers, Book Clubs, Math Olympiads, and the Singapore Math supplementary program.

Over the next year, we will also be furthering our efforts to be more responsible, environmentally aware citizens. We will work to expand our recycling efforts and move toward composting. I am proud of how far we have come and look forward to collaborating with parents and the community to become “greener.”

Reaching our goals for the upcoming year will take effort and commitment from our entire school community! I encourage you all to get involved in any way possible…we all have something to contribute! Please look for additional information coming home regarding our parent groups: PTA, Boosters, ELAC, and Site Council.  The support we recieve from these groups is essential to the success of our school!

Communication among the entire school community enhances our success. We share information with stakeholders in a number of ways: our school website (linhowe.ccusd.org), recorded phone messages, email, letters, flyers, and a principal’s newsletter. I encourage parents and teachers to be in regular communication regarding students’ challenges, successes, and any other relevant information.

The Lin Howe staff look forward to seeing you all on the first day of school, Wednesday, September 2, 2009!
