Principal's Message

Dear Lin Howe Parents and Students,

Welcome back to school for the 2008-2009 year! I hope you all had a restful, rejuvenating summer break and that you are ready for a year of engaging and challenging learning experiences.

Staffing/Room Changes
We have had a few staffing changes over the summer. I am sure you will join me with a warm welcome to the following teachers:
Atoosa Abascal (from La Ballona) - 2nd grade,
Kate Cowen (from Santa Monica-Malibu) - 2nd grade
Carrie Tokunaga (from La Ballona) - 3rd grade
Casey Chabola (back to us from Farragut) - 5th grade

Additional changes
Ali Mont is moving from 2nd grade to 4th grade
Sandy Black moved to room 15
Coco Kita moved to room 18

Communication among the entire school community enhances our success. We share information with stakeholders in a number of ways: our school website (linhowe.ccusd.org), recorded phone messages, email, letters, flyers, and a principal’s newsletter. I encourage parents and teachers to be in regular communication regarding students’ challenges, successes, and any other relevant information. Additionally, please plan to attend our Back-to-School Night that will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2008.

Other Opportunities to GET INVOLVED
We need the support of every Lin Howe family to be the best we can be! We value every family’s TIME, TALENT, and/or TREASURE.
Parent groups include: PTA, School Site Council, ELAC

Important Reminders
The cost of breakfast is now $1.50 and lunch is $2.50
School hours are 8:30-3:00, except for Wednesday when dismissal is at 1:30
Children should not be dropped off to start their school day before 8:15 unless they are having breakfast. The cafeteria opens at 7:45 for breakfast.
For security reasons, all visitors need to sign in at the office and obtain a visitors badge before entering campus.

We will continue to dismiss students from the blacktop area of the playground. Children who wait for parents or care givers to pick them up must remain on the playground until their parents or caregivers arrive. After school, our playground becomes a city park under the direction of Culver City Parks and Recreation. Unless your child has adult supervision or is enrolled in a fee based childcare program, he/she needs to be picked up immediately after school. The Culver City Unified School District’s Office of Child Development (310-842-4230) and Parks and Recreation (310-253-6650) both provide supervised after school care for a fee. Either office may be contacted for additional information.

I look forward to working with you and your child throughout the school year.

In Viking Spirit,

Amy Anderson
